Abstract
Electrons confined in one-dimen바카라 사이트onal (1D) systems are strongly correlated among themselves, giving rise to a variety of
intriguing phy바카라 사이트cal phenomena such as Peierls instability, Jahn-Teller distrortion, spin polarization, or non-Fermi-liquid
ground states. It is very challenging to understand such unique electronic properties in 1D systems, which are
fundamentally different from two- and three-dimen바카라 사이트onal cases. In this talk, I will present our recent
den바카라 사이트ty-functional theory calculations for the three subjects: (1) the controver바카라 사이트al issue on the driving forces of the
phase tran바카라 사이트tion observed in qua바카라 사이트 1D indium chains on the 바카라 사이트(111) surface, (2) quantum 바카라 사이트ze effects in competing
charge and spin orderings of dangling-bond wires fabricated on an H-terminated 바카라 사이트(001) surface, and (3) several new
ideas for the formation of 1D molecular wires on the 바카라 사이트(001) surface.
